Save and Resume

3 min read

Overview #

With the Save and Resume Addon, you can:

  • Let users save a partially completed form
  • Generate a resume link to continue later
  • Reduce form abandonment on long forms
  • Improve user experience for multi-step or detailed forms
  • Allow visitors to complete forms at their own pace

This is ideal for applications, registrations, surveys, quote requests, and onboarding forms.

Requirements #

Before using this addon, make sure you have:

  • WordPress installed and running
  • WPForms plugin installed and activated
  • Ultra Addons for WPForms installed and activated
  • Save and Resume Addon enabled

Installation #

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Go to Plugins → Add New.
  3. Upload the Ultra Addons for WPForms plugin zip file.
  4. Click Install Now, then Activate.
  5. Ensure WPForms is installed and active.

How to Enable the Save and Resume Addon #

  1. Go to Ultra Addons → Addons
  2. Find Save and Resume for WPForms
  3. Click Enable

Once enabled, the Save & Resume option will be available inside your WPForms form settings.

How Save and Resume Works #

When a user is filling out a form, they can click Save and Resume Later.

The system will then:

  1. Save the current form data
  2. Generate a unique resume link
  3. Allow the user to return later and finish the form
  4. Submit the completed form normally

This is especially useful for long forms that take more than a few minutes to complete.

How to Enable Save and Resume in a Form #

Step 1: Open Your Form #

  1. Go to WPForms → All Forms
  2. Click Edit on the form you want to update

Step 2: Enable Save and Resume Option #

  1. In the form builder, go to Settings
  2. Click Save and Resume
  3. Toggle Enable Save and Resume to ON

Step 3: Customize Save & Resume Settings #

You can customize how the Save & Resume feature behaves, including:

Save Button Text
Example: Save and Continue Later

Save Confirmation Message
Example:
“Your progress has been saved. Use the link below to resume your form anytime.”

Resume Link Delivery Option
Depending on your addon settings, you can allow:

  • Resume link shown on screen
  • Resume link sent to email (recommended)

Email Field for Resume Link
You can require users to enter an email address so the resume link can be delivered safely.

User Experience (Frontend) #

When enabled, users will see a Save and Resume Later option on the form.

After saving, they can:

  • Copy the resume link and open it later
    OR
  • Receive the link via email (if enabled)

When they return using the link, the form will open with their previous answers already filled in.

Viewing Saved Entries in WPForms #

Saved entries are typically stored as partial entries until the form is completed.

To view them:

  1. Go to WPForms → Entries
  2. Select your form
  3. Look for saved/incomplete entries (if available in your setup)

Once the user finishes and submits, it will appear as a complete entry.

Best Use Cases #

The Save and Resume Addon works best for:

  • Job application forms
  • University admission forms
  • Long surveys or questionnaires
  • Insurance quote forms
  • Service request forms
  • Multi-step registration forms
  • Client onboarding forms
  • Any form with many fields or file uploads

Tips for Better Results #

✅ Add a message near the top:
“Don’t have time to finish? Save and continue later.”

✅ Use Save & Resume for long forms only
Short forms usually don’t need it.

✅ If possible, send resume link by email
This prevents users from losing the link.

✅ Combine with multi-step forms
Save & Resume works great with page breaks and progress bars.
